Functions of BSV

The functions and purpose of BSV are established by Victorian legislation. The four key statutory functions can be summarised as:

  • providing quality advice to government about industry's training needs through the production of industry skill needs reports
  • promoting the value of training and a skilled workforce to industry, its enterprises and employees
  • participating in national industry training advisory structures and their processes
  • participating in the accreditation of industry-led training programs

In order to fulfill these functions the Board must act as a conduit between industry, government and the training system. Without any direct ability to allocate training funds or deliver training programs, the Board must act as an effective influencer and advocate if it is to achieve its goals.
